Season Theme

Cleaners bring fire to DC. The seasonal modifier fills a Pressure Gauge through kills and unlocks active modifiers that no longer share cooldowns. A first-ever non-normalized Dark Zone variant (Blackout) keeps SHD Watch and Expertise power intact.

Dark Zone Overhaul

The Dark Zone changed more in Red Horizon than in any prior season. Variants rotate weekly across DZ West, East, and South with one PvE and two PvP zones live at any time. Toxic and Balanced stay in rotation every week, while Blackout and Classic alternate. Both new loot systems below pull from the same special Dark Zone pool: Exclusive and Raid gear sets, legacy DZ-exclusive weapons, Named items, and Exotics.

Toxic Dark Zone (PvE, permanent)Kept permanently after Into the Dark, with the seasonal Modifiers gone. Every enemy faction appears, including Black Tusk. Sample Canisters and Surge were removed, toxicity values were adjusted, and extracting your gear now clears your Toxicity level.
Toxic normalizationPvP stat normalization no longer applies, so talents, gear sets, skills and weapons use their PvE values against enemies. Prototype Gear stays normalized, matching Raids and Incursions.
Toxic rewardsLandmark chests have a 20% chance to drop a contaminated cache from the special Dark Zone pool.
Blackout Dark Zone (PvP, new)The first fully uncapped Dark Zone. Stat normalization is removed entirely, so SHD Watch and Expertise bonuses apply at full strength. The zone is permanently Invaded with Black Tusk as the main enemy, and Veteran, Elite and Named enemies hit harder. Global PvP Balance and Rogue Protocol stay active.
Blackout rewardsLoot drops at Heroic quality with a 20% chance of an additional contaminated item. Ortiz: Reficere, Caduceus and Nurse's Kneepads were added to the PvP special pool.
Prototype dropsContaminated Prototype gear and weapons drop from enemies: 0.2% mid rolls from normal enemies, 0.5% mid plus 0.2% high from elites, and 1% mid plus 2% high from bosses.
Global PvP BalanceAnother pass across Skills, gear set and brand set bonuses, and talents, applying to Conflict and every PvP Dark Zone variant. Red Horizon also added Ortiz: Exuro and True Patriot to the gear set rebalance.

Season Activities

95 Company (Elite Kill Squad)New season-limited Cleaner elite squad. It can invade other faction Retaliations in the same slot as past squads like BTSU Team 9, a tougher named encounter rather than a guaranteed spawn.
Cleaner RetaliationsCleaners become the main Retaliation threat this season, taking Control Points and starting Retaliations in Named Zones. During other faction Retaliations they passively build Agitation instead of Black Tusk, which changes how fights escalate when more than one faction is pulled in.
Retaliation AnniversaryA dated Project Chain ran September 8-22 for the one-year mark, paying materials and caches per completed Project and ending in a choice outfit unlock. Progress bugs brought it back for one extra week from September 24 with hourly instead of daily unlocks.
The District Mall InfernoClassified Assignment, live August 27. Agent Felix McNally is attacked while recovering broad-spectrum antivirals, with the Cleaners closing in and an unknown assailant tied to an unaccounted SHD anomaly.
The Georgetown Dead ZoneSecond Classified Assignment, dated October 15. A JTF engineer team sent to install new tech in a stretch of Georgetown with no SHD network coverage has gone missing. Both unlock at Level 30 from the Assignments tab on the map.
CrossplayAnnounced at Gamescom for November 2026, following a partial rebuild of the online architecture. It will be on by default and can be disabled from the Character Selection screen. Exact date, supported platforms and progression model are not yet published.

Red Moon Rising (Y8S3.1)

The season's first title update landed on September 23, 2026 and added a separate PvE Dark Zone event running September 24 through November 3. It brought the Vertigo and Sarru exotics, the Rage Harvest return and further PvP tuning, see the Red Moon Rising guide.

New Exotics

Fafnir (Shotgun)Dragon's Breath: 40% Burn chance per shot, damage scales with half your Status bonus. Free Season Pass track. Fafnir guide
Iron Will (Chest)Resolved: body shots count as headshots, 2s PvE / 3s PvP cooldown, MMR/Rifle/Pistol only. Free Season Pass track. Iron Will guide
Loaded for Bear (Gloves)Afterburn: stacks up to 20 per target, reload converts them at 2% weapon damage each. Climax Mission exclusive. Loaded for Bear guide

Determined Rework

Determined now behaves like Perfect Determined: a converted headshot kill no longer chains into another guaranteed headshot. The old chaining playstyle moves to the Iron Will chest, which frees the weapon talent slot, the intended home is exotic MMRs and high-end MMRs with other talents. Marksman Rifle sets and brands (Hotshot, Aces & Eights, MMR damage bonuses) were buffed to compensate.

Brand & Gear Set Changes

Shock Resistance, Health, Incoming Repairs and Swap Speed leave brand bonuses; Protection from Elites joins. Each weapon type now has at least one brand offering its bonus at 1 piece and another at 2 pieces. Going forward there are no new brand sets, expect named pieces with perfect talents on existing brands instead. Red-core sets plus Ortiz: Exuro and True Patriot were rebalanced around risk versus reward.

Season Pass at a Glance

Free track carries both launch exotics plus caches, outfits and VFX. The $9.99 pass adds a second Fafnir copy, an exotic weapon skin, dyes, caches and premium credits. Full reward tables live on Ubisoft's announcement page linked above.

What This Means for Builds

Status-effect fire builds gain a real shotgun option, MMR builds rebuild around Iron Will instead of Determined, and glove slots stay open until the Climax Mission lands. Test combinations in the build planner and compare with tested builds.
